FROM THE ATTENDING PHYSICIAN AND CONSULTANT, DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE @ THE PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL, ALLEN, TEXAS. - LOR WILL BE INDIVIDUALIZED based on performance/sincerity and attendance. The student will request the LOR either in internal medicine or Cardiology in the last week of rotation. It is a recommended practice to waive rights to the LOR for it to be effective.

Description of the Rotation

Hospital rounds every day–

  • MONDAY to FRIDAY (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • Cardiology Hospital rounds on the floor and in the ICU, CCU, Intermediate Care, and Floors daily
  • 9 AM to 5 PM @ Presbyterian Hospital & Cardiac Cath Centre.
  • FRI: – 9 AM to 1 PM @ Presbyterian Hospital & Cardiac Cath Centre.
  • SAT/ SUN: – Depending upon the availability of the attending physician and the willingness of the students. It is not mandatory and will not affect their LORs.
  • Times are subject to change as per the cardiology attending’s schedule.
  • 8.00 a.m. – 9.00 a.m. Pre-rounds on all patients
  • 9.00 a.m. to 3-4 p.m. – Team Rounds on all service patients, discussion, assessment, and plans & facilitating the Rx.
  • 9.00 a.m. to 3-4 p.m. exposure with procedures like stress echo lab; Stress testing hands-on observation, monitoring, and testing with the physician, Observing Cardiac catheterization procedures in OR and observing other hands-on procedures done in Internal Medicine.
  • Saturday – Sometimes 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • You will also be taught about the practical aspects of practicing medicine in the USA, the Insurance systems, and the Prospects of different branches and sub-specialties of Medicine for future growth during and after residency.

Clinical experience as well as hands-on training with EMR systems per the attending physicians in the hospital setting.

Students may also be required to attend didactics, lectures, and grand rounds as and when they happen. While participating as a member of the team, you will learn to interact with diverse patients and perform detailed history taking and physical examination, check labs and notes on the patient. Formulate a differential diagnosis and an assessment and treatment plan for each patient under the attending physician’s supervision and guidance. The students will follow up on all patients under their care every day. They will also participate in discharge planning and execution.

This is a unique learning experience for medical graduates who are committed to becoming effective, successful residents. This clinical initiative is designed to prepare foreign medical graduates (IMGs) for the US clinical environment by providing them with hands-on clinical experience. You will have the experience as a clinical learner under the supervision of a teaching attending physician. At the end of your rotation, you may request a performance-based letter of recommendation.

PLEASE NOTE WE WILL REFER you to an accommodation that INCLUDES A FULLY FURNISHED HOUSE WHERE ALL THE STUDENTS DOING THIS ROTATION STAY. THE HOUSE IS WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE HOSPITAL. THAT WAY THE STUDENT DOES NOT HAVE TO SPEND MONEY ON TRANSPORTATION AND EXCESSIVE TIME COMMUTING. THE LANDLADY ONCE A WEEK WILL DRIVE YOU FOR GROCERIES IF POSSIBLE.

Payment Policy

Full payment is due 6 weeks before the rotation start date. This rotation is in high demand and people are paying full fees months in advance to book it. 50% of the amount will be refunded if rotation is canceled before 4 weeks of the start date. No refunds within 4 weeks of the start date.
