Description of the Rotation

Cardiology rotation Overview
 
Daily Hospital Rounds
  • Morning rounds Monday to Friday, approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Includes:
  • Jackson Park Hospital rounds almost daily
  • 1–2 outpatient clinics per week
  • Oncology Center rounds at Insight Hospital Medical Center
  • Optional Saturday hours available for interested students
 
Weekly Schedule
  • Monday:
    Rounds at Insight Hospital Cardiology rotation Center, Jackson Park Hospital, or Clinic
    Timing: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday:
    Rounds at Insight Hospital Cardiology rotation Center, Jackson Park Hospital, or Clinic
    Timing: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday:
    Hospital rounds at Jackson Park Hospital and/or Clinic
    Timing: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Thursday:
    Rounds at Jackson Park Hospital and/or Clinic
    Timing: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Friday:
    Hospital rounds at Insight or Jackson Park Hospital and/or Clinic
    Timing: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Note: All timings are subject to change based on the attending physician’s schedule.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Outpatient clinics 1–2 times weekly (approx. 4 hours each)
  • Students may also evaluate Internal Medicine patients when requested
  • Close interaction with:
  • Residents
  • Residency program staff & faculty
  • Nursing staff
  • Participate in patient management discussions and care coordination
 
Special Learning Opportunities
  • Observation of chemotherapy infusions at the Infusion Center at Insight Hospital Medical Center
  • Exposure to diverse hematologic and oncologic conditions and their diagnostic and therapeutic approaches
 
Academic Requirements

Clinical Skills Development

Throughout the rotation, students will:

    • Interact with diverse patient populations
    • Perform detailed histories and physical examinations
    • Review labs, imaging, and EMR notes
    • Formulate differential diagnoses
    • Create assessment and treatment plans under attending supervision
    • Follow up on all assigned patients daily
    • Participate in discharge planning and patient care coordination
    • Evaluation of EKGs, ECHO, Evaluation and management stress test
 
Program Outcomes

This rotation provides a valuable and comprehensive learning experience for medical graduates aiming to become strong residents.
It is specifically crafted to prepare international medical graduates (IMGs) for the U.S. clinical environment through hands-on experience. At the end of the rotation, students may request a performance-based Letter of Recommendation (LOR) on official hospital letterhead.
