Hospital based rotation – hands on

Inpatient hands-on ER at silver Cross Hospital (10 hours each day for 2 days) and Midwestern University (6 hours in person) Remote/tele ER sessions from Rush hospital, Cook County Hospital and Insight hospital will be in person as and when the ER attending physician gets the shift there. Roughly 30-40 hours per week of experience and teaching/ week.

Physician Affiliations

Attending Physician ER room Attending Physician at Silver Cross Hospital, Rush University Hospital, Cook County Hospital, inside Hospital medical Center. Most of these places have ER residency programs. The Attending Physician is also associate program director of the ER residency program at insight Hospital medical Center.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation options are available both on double occupancy and single occupancy within 3 to 5 minute walking distance from the hospital. Single occupancy rate is $1250 and double occupancy at $850. Once you have paid the Rotation fee, and the accommodation fees we will connect you to the landlord.

Description of the Rotation

Emergency Room (ER) Rotation Overview

Shift-Based Training
  • ER experience is provided through real-time shift work, mirroring the demands of actual emergency medicine practice
  • Shifts range from 8 to 12 hours
  • Students will complete two weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) during the month
  • Timing and shift schedules are subject to change based on the attending physician’s availability
 
Academic Expectations
  • Students may be required to attend:
  • Didactics
  • Lectures
  • Grand rounds
  • The attending physicians will provide the full rotation schedule at the start
  • LOR or SLOE can be issued based on student performance
 
Clinical Experience

This rotation offers an exceptional learning opportunity for medical graduates committed to developing into effective, successful residents.
You will encounter a wide range of emergency conditions and gain hands-on experience in:

  • Patient evaluation and acute management (Rx/Mx)
  • Working within the U.S. healthcare system
  • Assessing diverse patient presentations under close supervision of teaching attendings
 
Core Responsibilities

During the rotation, students will:

  • Interact with diverse patient populations
  • Perform detailed history taking and physical examinations
  • Review labs, imaging, and electronic medical records
  • Formulate differential diagnoses
  • Develop and implement treatment plans under attending supervision
  • Participate in discharge planning and follow-up procedures
 
Completion and Recommendation

At the end of the 4-week rotation, students may request a performance-based Letter of Recommendation (LOR) or SLOE on official hospital letterhead.

Site Assignment

The ER rotation schedule may take place at:

  • Silver Cross Hospital
  • Insight Hospital
  • Cook County ER
  • Rush ER
  • Or other approved emergency departments

Final placement and scheduling will be determined by the attending physician.

Payment & Refund Policy

Please review the payment and cancellation terms carefully:

  • Full payment is due 6 weeks before the rotation start date
  • 50% refund if the rotation is canceled before 4 weeks of the start date
  • No refund if the rotation is canceled within 4 weeks of the start date
