Outpatient Psychiatry, Medical Center: The student will see 20–30 psychiatry patients every day and will be involved in taking patient histories, performing physical examinations, and establishing assessment plans. They will discuss cases with the attending physician and gain exposure to psychiatry and psychological counseling for patients.

ACCOMMODATION ​

Accommodation options are available both on double occupancy and single occupancy within 3 to 5 minute walking distance from the hospital. Single occupancy rate is $1250 and double occupancy at $850. Once you have paid the Rotation fee, and the accommodation fees we will connect you to the landlord.​

Description of the Rotation

Psychiatry Rotation 


Daily Schedule: Approximately 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Additional Activities: Students may also attend didactics, lectures, and grand rounds as required
Schedule Notice: The attending physician will provide the detailed schedule at the start of the rotation

Clinical Responsibilities

Students will gain hands-on experience in psychiatric patient care, including:

  • Outpatient Clinics: Managing psychiatric patients in clinic settings
  • Collaboration: Working closely with residents, nurses, faculty, and subspecialties to coordinate patient care

This exposure ensures a comprehensive understanding of hospital workflows and team-based care in psychiatry.

Learning Experience

This rotation is designed for medical graduates aiming to become competent and effective residents. Key benefits include:

  • Exposure to a wide range of psychiatric disorders and management strategies
  • Learning evaluation, management (Mx), and prescription (Rx) skills
  • Preparing international medical graduates (IMGs) for the US Clinical Skills Exam (USCSE) through hands-on experience
  • Gaining insight into the United States healthcare system under the supervision of a teaching attending physician

At the conclusion of the 4-week rotation, students may request a performance-based Letter of Recommendation (LOR) on hospital letterhead.

Hands-On Training

Students will actively participate as part of the care team by:

  • Interacting with a diverse patient population
  • Performing detailed history taking and physical examinations
  • Reviewing labs and patient notes
  • Formulating differential diagnoses and executing treatment plans (Rx) under attending supervision
  • Participating in discharge planning and execution

This rotation provides a practical, immersive experience that builds clinical skills, teamwork, and confidence—essential for residency training.

  • Full payment is due 6 weeks before the rotation start date
  • 50% refund if the rotation is canceled before 4 weeks of the start date
  • No refund if the rotation is canceled within 4 weeks of the start date
