International Observerships Program: A Pathway to Enhance Your Medical Career
A Pathway to Enhance Your Medical Career
If you’re a medical graduate, resident, or physician in a foreign country aiming to expand your expertise in the U.S. healthcare system, an International Clinical Observership Program is an excellent way to gain critical insights. These programs provide participants with opportunities to observe clinical practice, learn from mentors, and build professional networks that can significantly benefit your medical career. Want to know how it unfolds? Here’s a detailed guide.

What Is Clinical Observation?
A clinical observership offers international medical graduates (IMGs) the opportunity to observe and understand hospital operations, patient care techniques, and healthcare delivery within the United States. These programs allow international medical students and professionals to learn by shadowing experienced attending physicians, attending workshops, and exploring key aspects of the medical system. While direct patient care is not permitted, the experience offers invaluable clinical exposure and prepares participants for U.S.-style graduate medical education.
Hospital Medicine Observership Program
The Hospital Medicine Observership Program serves as an outstanding platform for understanding the complexities of U.S. healthcare. Participants gain experience at prominent medical centers, working with Chairmen and Head of the departments helping them develop the skills and knowledge needed to advance their careers.
Objectives
By participating in this program, applicants can expect to:
Strengthen communication and interaction with diverse patient population in the US and critical thinking abilities. Familiarize themselves with clinical practice techniques in the U.S. Lay the groundwork for pursuing a residency program. Better align their career goals with U.S. healthcare and academic systems.

Wide Range of Clinical Rotations:

Deepen your medical knowledge by attending engaging in patient care rounds with attending physicians and care discussions with social workers and dietitians. There also lectures facilitated by leading faculty members.
Observer Feedback
At the end of the rotation, observers will receive detailed evaluations highlighting their strengths and areas where further development is needed. Applicants will receive constructive suggestions for their residency application and interviews. Additionally, all of our programs offer letters of recommendation to bolster your applications to U.S. residency programs and clerkship opportunities.
Fee Structure and Application
While participating in an observership is undoubtedly a significant investment, the benefits outweigh the costs. Program fees typically range around $400 per week, and rotations are often 4 weeks in length. Unfortunately, placement cannot be guaranteed due to high demand, and participants are encouraged to apply early.
The online application process is through our website which involves submitting the required information and paying the fees. The list of documents you will need to submit after above is available on the website. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis, so timely submissions are essential.
2025 Application Timeline
Looking to join in 2025? The earlier you apply the better off you will be. Do in clinical rotation starting as early as September October to March. April is better because that offers you less crowded rotations and one to one individual attention during your rotations. You probably will get the same after April too, but the rotations are more crowded than earlier around because most students wait till the last moment to do their rotations.
Why are Observerships beneficial-
Participating in clinical observerships at renowned medical centers with University Hospital affiliation can be a game-changer for your medical career.
