Description of the Rotation

When you are on service, you’ll be rounding with the Attending Physician at the Baylor Scott and White Medical Centre in the hospital. Your day will start early, around 7:30 AM, and go on until 2:30 PM every day of the week and sometimes even on Saturdays.

The schedule will be one week on and one week off. This will go on for four weeks, so you will work two weeks out of the month. However, your total number of hours would be the same as it would be over four weeks. Your LOR will also reflect that you have done the rotation for one month.

Students may also be required to attend didactics, lectures, and grandrounds. As a team member, you will observe interaction with diverse patients, learn history-taking and physical examination skills, assess labs, integrate labs in the case for assessment, and plan discussions with the attending physician. The students will follow up on all patients under their care every day, along with and under the attending physician's direction. They will also observe and participate in discharge planning and execution.

This is a unique learning experience for medical graduates committed to becoming effective, successful residents. This clinical initiative is designed to prepare foreign medical graduates (IMGs) for the US clinical environment by providing them with hands-on clinical experience. You will have the experience as a clinical learner under the supervision of a teaching attending physician. At the end of your rotation, you may request a performance-based letter of recommendation from the hospital letterhead.
