Description of the Rotation

Insight Hospital Medical Center and St. Bernard Hospitals cater to a diverse population including Caucasians, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, indigenous, and inner-city populations. The experience is phenomenal. The pathology seen is diverse and workup and diagnostics/Rx the state of the art. It is a rich and comprehensive USCE experience.

DAILY SCHEDULE
Monday – Friday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The schedule includes Hospital rounds and Clinic hours daily the schedule to be decided by the attending physician. Students will do History and physicals, lab rounds, assessments, and plans and discuss the same with residents and attending physicians on the rounds. Patients will be followed up in hospitals and clinics every day.

If students are interested, they can do Saturday hours as well. Times are subject to change as per the attending’s schedule. Outpatient clinics and hospital rounds total roughly 6 hours/day. Rotating Medical Students will work closely with the Residents, Fellows, and the attending team in close coordination with each other.

Students may also be required to attend didactics, lectures, and grand rounds at the hospitals. While participating as a member of the team, you will learn to interact with diverse patients and perform detailed history taking and physical examination, check labs and notes on the patient. Formulate a differential diagnosis and an assessment and treatment plan for each patient under the attending physician’s supervision and guidance. The students will follow up on all patients under their care every day. They will also participate in discharge planning and execution.
